The Beach Boys are overplayed, The Drums are already annoying and Jack Johnson…well, the less said the better.
M&B presents an alternative, urban summer playlist. Enjoy…
First up, a classic cross-over belter from ’06. Skream’s Midnight Request Line.
Closely followed by ultimate summer feel-good pick me up, Major Lazer’s Can’t Stop Now.
Now we’ve to mash things up. Alot. Girl Talk’s Feed the Animals (Part I, at least) with 23 different samples. Phwah.
Followed by my all time favourite rave anthem classic SL2′s On A Ragga Trip. Summer summer summer!
After all that bouncing around, we need something a bit more relaxed. Chuck us a mojito and whack on Massive Attack’s Risingson (Underworld Remix), a veritable marmite of a song.
To cap it all off, one you all know and should love: M.I.A’s Paper Planes

Any suggestions to add? Post below and keep the night going

Another one of my insightful observations here: I think ‘Urban’ is such a stupid fucking name for a genre of music.
That is all.
Is that header a dig at Ian as well? hahahaha
Really? I don’t.
stp bein a cunt, ur a dick. this is a sick list of tunes
Well you don’t get music pigeon-holed as ‘Rural’ do you? Nor do you get any other geographic terms used. I think it’s daft. All ‘Urban’ does is get arists tarred with the same brush. The fact that crap dubstep and Jurassic 5 get lumped into the same category is dumb.
Plus, the majority of ‘Urban’ music is made by posh kids in their suburban bedrooms anyway. Not a lot that’s urban about it.
Thank you for sharing your opinion, Anthony
No worries, man.
I would totally listen to some Rural music.
I guess ‘Rural’ music would be a catch all term for Country & Western, Folk music and stuff like that. So I guess we already do.
Personally, I agree with Anthony. Although his opinion may sound rash, I don’t think he’s actually attacking the music, but the idea of ‘Urban’ as a genre. I too think catch-all genres are a little overused and can end up putting people off of certain songs/albums/arists for an arbitrary reason. It’s similar to the way people think about the ‘Emo’ genre. Not all of it is bad, but catch-all terms make it hard to distinguish stuff like that.
As painfully blatant as it may be for creative arts like music etc, unfortunately its only human nature to naturally group things together as a way of cognitive recognition and understanding. What a fickle bunch we humans are!
Well said Jonathan. I think it’s a shame that the comments here are directed at the genre though, and not the music within the post.
