He writes about videogames and makes excellent electronic music, it’s none other than Daemon Hatfield. He’s back again with another fantastic album.

tumblr_kscesoeppG1qzlkowo1_500Leaving the Monster-0 moniker behind, Daemon Hatfield returns with another dose of electronic goodness. Now known as just ‘Daemon’, Hatfield continues to provide excellent ambient electronic music that will impress even the biggest of musical snobs. Granted this kind music isn’t exactly my thing, but there’s something about Background Processes (and the other stuff that Mr. Hatfield has done) that I really love and I felt the need to share.

Fans of Daemon’s past work will certainly see that he’s gone in a new direction with this album. Whilst the stuff done as Monster-0 was in the same vein as this, it had more of a rock sound to it. The sound of guitars and drums are gone for the most part, but the music still remains as enjoyable, if not more so. That said, if I had to compare Background Processes to anything out there right now people will have heard I don’t think I could. It’s very a very niche sound to say the least.

Upon my first listen I was completely in love with the whole thing. It’s got this fantastic oriental style sound that’s really infectious and you can’t help but relax when you hear it. It makes a great soundtrack if you want to wind down of a night. Going back to the oriental thing, there’s one artist, I doubt many of you will know of him, by the name of Baiyon. Background Processes could, most definitely, pass for some of his work. Something I’m sure Daemon would see as a compliment. I had that thought running through my head the whole time this album was playing and it was Cubicle the cemented that idea.

Like I said, I don’t know much about electronic music. What I do know is that this album is fantastic and deserves a place in the collection’s of electronic music enthusiasts everywhere. Daemon has changed his style up and has still managed to craft something wonderful. Monster-0 was/is great, but it’s a completely different sound if you ask me. This is one of my favorite albums of the year by far.
